The MHA is the standard professional preparation for those who will take leadership roles in the delivery and financing of health services. Career settings range from delivery organizations, such as hospitals and clinics, to related parts of the health care industry, such as consulting, insurance, and government agencies.

The MHA requires 84 credit hours. Field studies are incorporated into several of the core courses, and students are required to participate in a summer administrative residency unless it is waived based on substantial prior experience. Students can also choose a specialization in long-term care in preparation for licensure as a nursing home administrator.
