Division of Health Services Management and Policy

The Division of Health Services Management and Policy (HSMP) gives students the foundation knowledge and skills to be the next generation of leaders in the health care arena. The HSMP faculty prepare women and men for management and policy positions in health service and related careers, and they improve health services through research, teaching and service activities.

The HSMP Division offers students the option of completing a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with an HSMP specialization or a Master of Health Administration (MHA) degree. (Learn more about the difference between these two options.) Our MHA program is consistently ranked one of the best in the nation by US News & World Report. Learn more About the MHA Program.

The Division of Health Services Management and Policy prepares its doctoral students to become leading authorities in a variety of health services fields, including health care management, health policy, and health services research. Learn more about the PhD in Health Services.

Our principal areas of research are broadly in health care leadership, organization, health economics, operations management, outcomes research, health care finance, and health policy.

Experts in health management and policy find themselves in demand. Job placement for students with an MHA degree from OSU has been consistently at 95 percent or better by the time of graduation.

Representative positions held by MHA graduates include:
  • Chief Executive Officer at children’s hospital
  • Manager of the health care practice of a large consulting firm
  • Director of a state Medicaid program
  • Regional vice president of a pharmaceutical distribution system company
  • Attorney specializing in health care
  • Legislative Analyst, National Institutes of Health
