Title: Public health traineeship

Sponsor: Bureau of Health Professionals/HRSA
These grants support traineeships for students in graduate health educational programs in accredited institutions. The awarded institutions then determine which students to select for their federally funded projects. Provides traineeships for individuals in fields where there is a severe shortage including epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, toxicology, nutrition, and maternal and child health.

Title: Leadership in education in neurodevelopmental and related disabilities program

Sponsor: Maternal & Child Health Bureau (prime HRSA)
The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) program is funded by the U.S. Bureau of Maternal and Child Health. It is housed at the Nisonger Center and provides traineeships for graduate students in a number of clinical disciplines and health administration. During the one-year traineeship, students take courses, attend clinics and participate in community service activities designed to help them become leaders in the field of developmental disabilities.

Title: Improving Cardiovascular Care for Minority Americans:  Assessing Organizational Readiness to Change

Description:  This project is part of the Expecting Success program http://www.expectingsuccess.org/ of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) http://www.rwjf.org , intended to improve the quality of health care provided to minority populations in the United States.  The organizational assessment is designed to investigate hospitals’ readiness to change organizational and individual behavior around the issues of reducing disparities and improving the quality of inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care http://www.expectingsuccess.org/about-srAdv-scheck_a.html

Title: Corporate Universities in Healthcare Organizations:  Exploring the Evidence
Description: This project received the American College of Healthcare Executives’ 2006 Health Management Research Award, http://www.ache.org/ABT_ACHE/AWARDS/hmra.cfm. The research is designed to use both qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the use and evaluation of corporate universities in U.S. healthcare organizations.

Title: Physicians’ Use of Information Technologies in Clinical Practice:  Implementation Strategies and Challenges
Description: This research is designed to investigate physicians’ use of different information technologies in medicine, including computerized physician order entry systems, computerized order sets, and handheld computers.  The theoretical focus of this study includes considering the diffusion of these innovations, and studying the organizational changes required to facilitate physicians’ technology use.

Title: Leadership Development in Health Care:  Practical Strategies for Health Care Organizations
Description: This project is designed to explore alternative strategies for leadership development and determine which approaches are most appropriate to develop and promote essential leadership competencies, especially for in-house health care leadership development programs.

Title: Nursing Culture and Climate in Children’s Hospitals
Description: This objective of this research is to improve the quality and safety of pediatric care at large children’s hospitals through investigation of pediatric nursing practice and the work environment.
