National Ranking and Accreditation

The School of Public Health’s MHA degree program regularly ranks in the top 15 by US News and World Report and is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME).

Student Placement

Job placement for students with an MHA degree from The Ohio State University has been consistently at 95-100% by the time of graduation.

Medical Center Relationship

The Division of Health Services Management & Policy has a close relationship with the Ohio State University Medical Center, which provides jobs, assistantships, opportunities for class projects, and financial support.

Clinical Rounds

MHA students are assigned to a clinical care team in the Ohio State University Medical Center to enhance their understanding of patient care processes. All medical and surgical specialties participate in the assignments, which include observing clinical rounds and team meetings.

Financial Aid

All applicants are eligible to be considered for University Fellowships, Graduate Administrative Associateships, Scholarship Awards and part-time employment with the Ohio State University Medical Center.

Curriculum

The MHA curriculum emphasizes (1) basic management skills, (2) application of management skills to the unique characteristics of health care organizations, (3) health policy analysis. In addition, communication skills and interactions with other health professionals are incorporated throughout the curriculum.

Director of Professional Development

The Director of Professional Development works with students on producing a polished resume, interviewing, and other practical skills that will help them be successful in obtaining a summer residency, fellowship, or initial job placement.

Small Selective Program

The faculty places an emphasis on teaching along with an active research agenda. The core faculty/student ratio is only 1:6. In addition there are several Adjunct Faculty who are senior practitioners, bringing the latest information and trends to the classroom.

Alumni Placement Service

The HSMP Alumni Society maintains a Placement Service that is available to all members of the HSMP Alumni Society.

National Competitions Winners

OSU MHA students have been awarded first place in national case competition for two consecutive years and three years out of the first seven years of the competition. An OSU MHA student won first place in the 2004 Essay Competition sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives.

The Columbus Community

Columbus is a large, lively city. Attractions include Big Ten and professional sports, and two 15,000 seat arenas, which offer a wide array of entertainment. An outdoor theater features national concert touring groups, and downtown offerings include a Broadway series, symphony, ballet, opera, and jazz.
