They developed procedures that focused on the prevention of food contamination during an outdoor event and a curriculum for training public health, safety and medical professionals as well as retail food operators and event managers. This educational training program included all of the tools necessary for an individual to teach responding agencies the integration of public health emergencies in the traditional emergency response system. The program consisted of two modules. Module 1 consisted of a complete power point presentation and Module 2 consisted of a collaborative exercise. Location: Northeast Central Ohio
Members: Nancy Mosca, Diana Colaianni, Linda Ewing, Anita Kramer, Dixie Morris, Nancy Norton, Nancy Swanson, Patricia Sweeney Team Leader: Nancy Mosca, nwmosca@ysu.edu, Youngstown State University, Professor Project: Tri-County Needs Assessment Team: School Nurse Bioterrorism/Disaster Preparedness.* This project combined the knowledge of public health nursing staff and university faculty with school nurse representatives from a three county region to accomplish a needs assessment for school nurses in the area of preparedness training. The project objectives were to 1) evaluate the disaster and emergency preparedness body of knowledge relative to school nurse needs; 2) assess the learning needs of local (tri-county) school nurses in the area of disaster preparedness; and 3)determine the best venues to meet the learning needs of school nurses in the tri-county area. The intent was to develop a template that could be used by other regions and areas to conduct similar exercises. The goal of the exercise was to test components of the region's current plans, including the Strategic National Stockpile, Dispensing Sites and Regional Communication. Location: Northwest, OH

Community building with asset-based assessments, preparedness planning adn pre-incident education were emphasized. This was accomplished with the assistance of The Study Circles Resource Center, respective agencies and community supporters. Location: Athens County, OH

This project was initiated as a single scholar and transitioned into a Cincinnati team project. It focused on the environmental health issues affecting various populations within the city of Cincinnati. Location: Cincinnati, OH
Members: Laurie Baum, Donna Fligiel, Carol Hendrickson, Christine Henry, Steve Killpack, Muquit Sabur Project: Cuyahoga County Health Department Team Nurses from the Cuyahoga County Health Department worked with social service agencies within the community to decrease the number of children who were victims of Shaken Baby Syndrome. The project "trained trainers" to go into the community and provide workshops to families and health professionals within the Cuyahoga County area. Location: Cuyahoga County, OH

Members: Stephen Mills, Tom Davis, Barbara Brahm, Beverly Goldacker, Lorelle Mueting, Laura Schmelzer, David Wirt Team Leader: Dr. Stephen Mills, City of Findlay Health Department, City Health Commissioner Project: City of Findlay Health Department Eat Smart/Play Hard Prevention Program. This project involved the creation of a fitness and nutrition education and prevention program directed towards K-2 students and their families. The program began with an assembly for students and staff describing the content of the program. The actual program included six fitness and nutrition education sessions conducted over three months and included fitness activities, food demonstrations and tasting, nutrition education, class activities and lessons, displays, a health lending library and many other hands-on activities. The program concluded with a school-wide health fair with local health professionals, local grocery donations and the University football team. Location: Findlay, OH
