Program Director hired. Training needs survey completed. OPHLI objectives, curriculum, evaluation, and application procedures developed. Produced marketing video and materials. 11 applications (16 communities) submitted, 6 accepted. First OPHLI class is launched in October. |

Leadership teams focus on community projects. OPHLI class completes six modules in 12 months. First OPHLI class graduates. Second OPHLI class is formed (5 teams). Job competencies of Health Commissioners developed. |

Second OPHLI class graduates. OPHLI Board of Trustees is created. Third OPHLI class is formed (7 teams). Job Competencies of Nursing Directors and Environmental Directors developed. |
| 1997 |
Module II held at inner-city community center. First annual Ohio Public Health Leadership Forum and Exposition (June) is conducted with 175 attendees. Seven teams apply for '97-'98 class. Obtained ASPH/CDC Summer student intern to develop an evaluation tool for leadership. Collaborated with CDC to sponsor a taped delayed broadcast presentation by Dr. Charles Mahan. |
| 1998 |
Five local community teams completed the twelve month leadership program. Change in OPHLI staffing and creation of a new permanent ODH home for OPHLI in the newly created ODH Office of Public Health Leadership and Professional Development. Annual Public Health Summer Institute established. |
| 1999 |
The first OPHLI Alumni meeting is held during September team graduation/new team induction conference. Three local community teams completed the twelve-month leadership program. |
| 2000 |
Four local community teams completed the twelve month leadership program. One of the teams received a state-wide minority health award for its innovative use of computers to access health information for members of inner-city churches and community centers. |
| 2001 |
Four new teams completed the twelve month leadership program. One team was selected to present their men’s health project at the APHA national meeting. Another team completed an internet-based nursing curriculum for all local Directors of Nursing in the state. |
