About the Program
In order to carry out their mission, public health systems must be capable of effectively managing and manipulating the data all around them. Over the course of two weeks each summer, The Ohio State University’s College of Public Health and partners from across Ohio create a unique learning environment to provide applied public health analytic skills for a broad range of participants.
The Summer Program began in 2000 with a focus on advanced biostatistical concepts. Since 2004, a curriculum in Practice Based Epidemiology (PBE) has evolved into a broader series of courses offering specific epidemiology training that emphasizes applied methods. The PBE series, which consists of five core courses and several additional affiliated courses, has become a forum where the world’s foremost public health researchers and teachers come together with students and practitioners from across Ohio and the United States.
Over two weeks and 10-15 individual courses, Summer Program participants refine the skills they need to conduct analyses, draw conclusions and make sound decisions aimed at improving the health of the people they serve.
The College of Public Health extends a special thanks to the Summer Program Advisory Group for providing valuable input into the planning of the program.
