Columbus, Ohio
Columbus is located in the heart of the “Buckeye State” and is one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas, now the 15th largest city in the US. In 2006, Money Magazine rated Columbus as one of the best places to live in the United States, and The Scientist magazine rated Ohio State as one of the best places to work in academia. The community offers visitors a wide variety of amenities including an abundance of galleries and performance space, exciting downtown festivals, and world class restaurants. Columbus also offers an exciting mix of sports including: Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew; the Columbus Clippers, AAA affiliate of the Washington Nationals baseball team; National Hockey League’s Columbus Blue Jackets; and of course the talented teams representing The Ohio State University, including the 2002 National Champion football team.
In addition to many local events and major league sports, more than 2.5 million visitors a year enjoy the Columbus Zoo. In the summer of 1999, the Columbus Zoo opened “Manatee Coast,” one of the three Manatee exhibits outside of Florida.
For air travelers getting into and out of Columbus, Port Columbus International Airport serves as Columbus’ gateway. It offers more than 350 arrivals and departures daily. Port Columbus International Airport is located 9 miles east of The Ohio State University and offers taxi and shuttle services from many vendors (approximate fare being $30).
